POLICE DISPATCHER

 

The Hudson, New Hampshire Police Department, A Nationally Accredited Agency, is seeking well organized individuals to effectively perform specialized technical and clerical duties involved with the operation of the Department's dispatch/communication center.  The ideal candidate must be able to analyze, clarify, process, and disseminate information provided by citizens and safety personnel via telephone and radio. Typical duties include, but are not limited to: maintaining radio contact with police officers in the field; dealing one on one with people in the lobby of the police station; answering 911 and other emergency calls; analyzing and determining a call’s priority and retrieving related information; entering information into the agency’s computer system; operating computer and office equipment; retrieving information from internal and external databases; and clearly and succinctly dispatching and coordinating police responses to incidents that originate with 911, non-emergency calls, and radio calls. The Town offers a competitive salary and benefits package.  The position requires shift work, including nights, weekends and holidays. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a United States Citizen.
  • High school graduate or New Hampshire approved GED equivalency certificate.
  • Applicant must be computer literate and be able to type.
  • Knowledge or the ability to learn the geographic layout of the Town of Hudson.
  • Proper English usage, diction and grammar.
  • Will work weekends, late night shift, holidays and possible additional shifts.
  • Must have normal (or corrected to normal) hearing and eyesight and a clear and audible voice for radio and telephone communications.
  • Persons applying shall be of good moral character.
  • Applicants shall not have a criminal record or serious motor vehicle record.
  • Applicants must obtain a 70% or higher written examination score.
  • Applicants must complete an extensive background investigation and psychological exam to be considered for hire.
  • Applicants must not have any offensive or inappropriate tattoos, scarifications, or brands visible while he/she is wearing short sleeve police uniform shirts. The Chief of Police will have final determination of all tattoos. Hand, face and neck tattoos are prohibited with the exception of wedding ring tattoos. (our policy available upon request).
  • Applicants must be able to successfully complete all training requirements in order to be able to effectively perform the duties required by this position.

ABOUT HUDSON POLICE

Hudson is a growing Town, with an estimated population of 25,000 residents. Hudson is located in the state’s most populous county on the Massachusetts border. The Town of Hudson hosts numerous high tech companies and small businesses, as well as provides a pleasant home for many people who commute to jobs in the Boston area. It is located on the east bank of the Merrimack River. The Town’s southern border is the Massachusetts State line (Tyngsboro, Massachusetts). The primary artery leading to and from Hudson is Route 3. New Hampshire State Routes 3A, 102 and 111 also run through the town.
