ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENT

The Lebanon Police Department offers a challenging patrol area with a resident population of approximately 14,000. During the daytime, the population increases to approximately 40,000 due to the local economic and social activity of the area. We cover this area with 35 full-time sworn officers, 11 communication specialists, and a total Police Department staff of approximately 62 people. We are very active and enjoy the support of the residents of the City of Lebanon.

The Lebanon area offers the best of northern New England and is located adjacent to the crossroads of I-89 and I-91 with I-89 running through the middle of the City.

We have several specialty assignments for Officers who have performed well; a K-9 Unit with three teams, full time School Resource Officer assigned to the School District, a SWAT trained Tactical and Containment Team, Police Training Officer Program, Firearms and Use of Force Instructor Programs, Cybercrime Unit affiliated with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) TaskForce, Motorcycle Unit, and a Mountain Bike Patrol Unit. In addition, officers may work toward assignments within the Detective and Training Divisions along with promotional opportunities. All patrol personnel maintain certification with police baton, OC spray, less lethal shotgun, pepperball projectile system, pistol, and police semi-auto rifle with our own instructors maintaining these certifications internally.

The Lebanon Police Department is committed to providing the most advanced equipment and exceptional fringe benefits. The department maintains a fleet of traditional mountain bikes along with several all-terrain electric power bikes, and a side-by-side utility vehicle, both of which are used to patrol the miles of trails within the City. We replace our marked cruiser fleet every three years and update the cruiser equipment on the same cycle. All uniforms and equipment are issued by the department, including ballistic vests, at no cost to the officer. The department allows visible tattoos, including arm sleeves, as long as the tattoos meet department standards.

The department came on line with a Police Drone Program with police officers serving as Drone Pilots. The department has a drone equipped with thermal imaging capability to assist the agency in meeting our mission and officers are provided extensive training.

Our Patrol Officers’ base pay starting in 2023 is $59,716.80 to $78,936 and they are members of the New Hampshire
State Retirement System, which permits retirement at age 50 or 25 years of service, whichever is later, for
newly certified officers. Certified officers may be started at a higher rate based upon experience.
