The Elizabethtown Borough Police Department is seeking applications for the position of FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER to join our team as we move into the future. Applications can be picked up in person at the Elizabethtown Police Station, 600 South Hanover Street, Elizabethtown PA 17022 between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm, Monday – Friday, or they can be downloaded directly from the EPD’s website at https://www.etownonline.com/police-department. Completed applications must be received at the EPD on or before 4:00 pm, Wednesday, May 1, 2019. We anticipate an aggressive hiring schedule that will allow the next team members to join us as soon as practical. At this time, the Physical Agility exam is scheduled for the morning of Saturday, May 18th, with the written exam scheduled for the afternoon of the same day.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: An acceptable applicant must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States;
  • Have reached their 21st birthday prior to the application deadline;
  • Have graduated from an accredited high school or possess a GED;
  • Have completed police academy training in accordance with the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission – Act 120 – or be currently enrolled in the police academy with a graduation date prior to the date of appointment;
  • Be physically and mentally capable of performing all of the necessary job-related tasks that are part of the role of Police Officer.


The Elizabethtown Police Department is a dynamic, progressive agency that has been serving the Elizabethtown community since 1911. Elizabethtown Borough has a population of approximately 11,500 residents and includes the Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown Area High and Middle School Campus and two elementary schools. The department currently employs 17 full time police officers and 2 administrative civilian personnel. Officers include the chief of police, lieutenant, corporals, detectives, school resource officer and patrol officers. We are a COMMUNITY-FOCUSED police department, with officers trained in bicycle patrol, forensics, DUI enforcement and traffic safety. Our officers participate in a number of community-based youth programs and we interact with our neighborhood partners on a daily basis. EPD is moving quickly into the future of 21st Century Policing, using innovative digital resources and policing strategies in our effort to always better serve our community.

Department officers are assigned to various county task forces and teams to include Lancaster County Drug Task Force, Lancaster County Major Crimes Unit, Lancaster County Forensics Team, and a Regional Crash Investigative Team. The police station also serves as a regional booking center for the fingerprinting and photographing of criminal suspects. This regional facility is utilized by three other police departments. The department is dispatched through the Lancaster County-Wide Communications.


Officers with the EPD currently work an attractive 12-hour schedule that affords them an excellent balance of responsibility at work and time off with their families. Benefits also include: pension, vision, dental, prescription, and medical coverage, life insurance, paid vacation, court time, longevity pay, education bonus, and department-issued uniforms and equipment. We also offer a competitive salary range as provided within the existing CBA, with the starting salary currently set between $52,689 and $66,469, depending upon experience, and our officers reach top pay after completing five years of service. EPD officers currently enjoy a very generous residency requirement that must be met within the first year of employment.
