General Statement of Job

Responsible for the intake classification of all inmates for the purpose of housing and rehousing inmates correctly based on past and current criminal charges as required by Florida Model Jail Standards.  In this position, staff will assist with interviewing inmates and documenting information in our risks, needs and assessment tool. The Intake Specialist will also be responsible for gathering information from the inmate and other sources to best place the inmate in programs, such as mental health, substance abuse, GED, parenting, Heavy Equipment and other programs offered at the Walton County Jail. 


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Applicants must have two (2) years of clerical or corrections experience.
  • Applicants must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Applicant must be able to multi-task.

Essential Job Functions

  • Regular and prompt job attendance.
  • Operates computerized management information systems to retrieve or enter information.
  • Proficient in NCIC/FCIC.
  • Capability to read and understand Criminal Histories- in and out of state.
  • Interpersonal skills to manage inmates.
  • Maintains radio communications with deputies in housing modules, communicates with inmates via intercom, answers telephone calls and relates information to authorized persons.
  • Updates logs to reflect inmate movement.
  • Successfully completes all assignments to specifications, within specified timeframe and budget as directed and in accordance with agency policies and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of various computer systems to include CJIS, NCIC/FCIC, and JMS.
  • Skill in the use of computers, two-way radio communications, intercom system, and a variety of detention devices used to perform daily functions of position.
  • Knowledge of HIPPA laws.
  • Effectively prepare reports and logs.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Remain calms in crisis or emergency situations.
  • Maintain concentrated visual attention to detail for an extended period of time.
  • Prioritize and exercise good judgment under stressful circumstances.
  • Identify suspicious activities utilizing closed circuit television monitors.

Required Physical Abilities

  • Sit up to 6 hours per day
  • Stand up 1 hour per day
  • Walk up 2 hours per day
  • Frequently lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Frequently bend, reach, or twist
