Special Law Enforcement Officer – Class 3 (SLEO-Class 3)
City of Passaic will be hiring Special Law Enforcement Officer – Class III. Under direction of the Chief of Police, Special Law Enforcement Officer – Class III will comply with the rules and regulations applicable to the conduct and decorum of the permanent, regularly appointed police officers of the Passaic Police Department, as well as any rules and regulations applicable to the conduct and decorum of Special Law Enforcement Officers.
Requirements:
Candidate shall meet at a minimum the following:
- Must be a resident of the State of New Jersey during his or her term of appointment,
- Must have a High School diploma or its equivalent,
- Must be sound in body and of good health, must pass a medical exam which must be certified by a physician licensed to practice in the State of New Jersey (Form PTC8A).
- Must successfully pass a background investigation to include a drug screen (pursuant to Attorney General’s Law Enforcement Drug Testing Policy) and psychological exam.
- Must be of good moral character,
- Must not have been convicted of any offenses, involving dishonesty, which would make the candidate unfit to perform his or her duties.
- The candidate shall possess a valid Police Training Commission Certification, having served as a duly qualified, full-trained, full-time officer in any municipality or county of the State or as a member of the State Police.
- Must be a retired law enforcement officer, have been separated from prior service in good standing within three (3) years of this job posting. Must be less than 65 years of age for appointment (can only be reappointed up to age 65).
- Have a letter of good standing issued by the agency from which the officer retired, listing the date and type of retirement. A copy will be submitted to the PTC.
- A valid NJ Drivers License will be required.
After Appointment to SLEO III Position:
- Complete SRO training within 12 months of being appointed (courses t be offered at the local academies).
- Conform to all Passaic Police Department in-service trainings, rules and regulations, policies, and General Order.
- Reappointed on the annual basis following the school year calendar.
Salary: $35.00 an hour
