 Pre-Trial Services Intern

(Unpaid Internship)

 

DESCRIPTION 

Interns assigned to Pre-Trial Services (PTS) will assist the unit in achieving its goals and objectives which include:

  • Provide services that will assist with a reduction of inmate population in the Corrections Bureau
  • Ensure that offenders appear in Court at all scheduled proceedings
  • Make appropriate treatment referrals when necessary
  • Ensure that all conditions of release are strictly enforced
  • Prepare comprehensive summaries for the Courts’ review, outlining offender’s adjustment while under supervision with Pre-Trial Services
  • Provide accurate criminal histories for Carroll County District and Circuit Courts bail reviews
  • Provide essential information to the Maryland Parole Commission to expedite the hearing process

 

ESSENTIAL TASKS

  • Attend Carroll County District and Circuit Courts bail reviews and take comprehensive notes as to the amount of bail set and conditions of release
  • Attend Court hearings for offenders under Pre-Trial supervision and record the outcome of the proceedings
  • Prepare and organize folders for offenders assigned for supervision
  • Update information in the Pre-Trial data bases
  • Conduct intakes on new cases assigned for supervision
  • Complete risk assessments for case classification
  • Deliver documents to the Courts
  • Assist Correctional Specialist in securing essential Court documents
  • Update trial dates for offenders through the Maryland Judiciary Case Search web site
  • Conduct drug and alcohol screenings on offenders
  • Process case files on offenders at the conclusion of supervision

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age
  • Possession of a General Education Development (GED) certificate or diploma recognized by the State Board of Education
  • Must be a college student in good standing
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license from state of residence
  • Applicant must be a United States citizen or a resident alien
  • Applicant must successfully pass a thorough background investigation and drug screen.
