CAMPTON POLICE DEPARTMENT

Campton Police Officers perform highly responsible and visible work in law enforcement to preserve the peace, protect persons and property in the community, and enforce federal and state laws, and local ordinances and by-laws. The Police Department is currently comprised of 7 full-time officers, a full-time prosecuting attorney, and administrative staff. The Police Department is proud to have a contemporary grooming and tattoo policy that allows visible tattoos above the wrist and below the neck and beards to be worn year-round. Officer health is also paramount as officers are equipped to patrol with load bearing external vests.  Specialized assignments include a regional SWAT team, drug task force, and Comfort Dog K9.

The Mission of the Campton, New Hampshire Police Department is to safeguard life and property, preserve the peace, prevent and detect crime, enforce the law, and protect the rights of all citizens. HISTORY

The Campton Police Department was, prior to March 1990, a part-time department with an elected part-time chief. At town meeting 1990, the town voted to have a department comprised of a full-time appointed chief and a full-time appointed first officer. The first appointed chief was Paul K. Chase, Jr. and past chief Christopher Warn was appointed as first officer. Past elected chiefs include: Riley “Dick” Strong, Arthur T. Kindell, Donald “Shorty” McKinnon, and Lester Mitchell. Due to its convenient location on Interstate 93, many travelers spend time in Campton. Over the years, many have relocated here. In the years since the appointed Department began, we have expanded to appropriately respond to the many diverse needs of our growing community.
