Full-Time Sergeant

 

The Town of Millinocket has an immediate opening for a highly motivated, progressive, community oriented full-time Sergeant.  To be considered for this outstanding opportunity, applicants shall be able to multitask and have the ability to perform the essential job functions of a Law Enforcement Officer, as well as that of a Sergeant. An Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field, or a combination of relevant training and experience is desirable.  Experience in managing an active caseload and the ability to supervise patrol officers. Preference will be given to graduates of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program (BLETP), First Line Supervision School and/or a concentration of schools or training in regards to investigating crimes.

Candidates must have no criminal or adverse traffic record and may undergo an oral interview, background investigation, polygraph, psychological testing, and a medical exam.

Millinocket is a very special place with plenty of recreational opportunities. The area has many hiking, snowmobile and ATV trails all at the edge of Maine’s vast forest. Itis the gateway to Mount Katahdin, voted World’s Best Hike by National Geographic and home to the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. Millinocket is the gateway to the famed Golden Road, the North Maine Woods, the West Branch of the Penobscot River, the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, Baxter State Park, and a vast network of lakes, trails systems, day-hikes, and 4-season recreational opportunities. Millinocket is a great place to live.

The Millinocket Police Department is a small community (population approx. 4500) oriented police department that provides 24 hour coverage, 7 days a week.

This is a full-time position (42 hours per week).  Officers work three 12 hour shifts in what is known as the Pitman work schedule. Every other weekend is a long weekend.

Starting Salary for a Sergeant is $25.32/hour and is eligible for overtime.  

Education Requirements                                                    

High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Alert Test

Preference given to Associates Degree and higher
