Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II

(Already Certified)

GENERAL DUTIES

Certified SLEO II Officers are empowered to issue summons for motor vehicle violations, city ordinance violations, petty disorderly persons violations and disorderly persons violations. Many of these officers are assigned to the bicycle patrol units, the beach, boardwalk and mall areas. SLEO II officers have the same authority and arrest powers as a full time police officer while they are employed. In addition to the above responsibilities they have the responsibility of carrying a firearm.  

In this round of hiring we are seeking a qualified SLEO II Officer to work within our Patrol Division.  This SLEO II Officer must be able to successfully complete our department's Field Training Program.  Once completed, this officer will work within our Patrol Division to cover open shifts and to supplement shifts during special events.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

All applicants:

- Must be a United States Citizen and a resident of New Jersey

- Must be at least 21 years of age

- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent

- Must possess a valid New Jersey driver's license

- Must possess a valid PTC Certification

- Cannot have an existing obligation under NJSA 40A:14-178 (Reimbursement to originating agency requirement)

- Must pass a psychological exam and a medical exam

- Must pass a Drug Test pursuant to Attorney General's Law Enforcement Drug Testing Policy

- Must pass background investigation

- Must comply with all other state and federal requirements for the position

- Must have 2-3 years of police experience, at the time of hiring

-Applicants that reside within forty-five minutes of Cape May are preferred.  

-Applicants that have successfully completed a Field Training Program are also preferred.  

Salary: $31,200 / yearly with full benefits.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

SLEO II Officers must already be certified with the required NJ PTC 471 hours of training from a NJ Approved Police Academy. The course of study must have included, history of law enforcement, the NJ court system, community responsibility, criminal law, arrest search and seizure, use of force, patrol vehicle operations, motor vehicle law, first responder emergency rescue, firearms, PR-24 baton, chemical agents, self-defense, patrol tactics, criminal law, communications, report writing, court room testimony, military drill, and physical fitness.

SALARY

  • $31.200 yearly (42 hour work week) with Full Benefits and Overtime availability.
