CERTIFIED OFFICER

The Guilford Police Department is a CALEA and State of Connecticut accredited police agency that is accepting lateral entry applications for the position of full-time Police Officer. The successful candidate must be eligible for and meet all requirements for a lateral transfer, as established by the Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POSTC). Officers must be of and remain in good standing with their present agency or have retired in good standing and maintained their POSTC Certification or Connecticut law enforcement comparative eligibility.

All candidates will be required to successfully complete the following:

  • Written Examination
  • Oral Interview
  • Thorough background investigation
  • Polygraph examination
  • Psychological examination
  • Medical examination, including drug and anabolic steroid screening

A competitive wage and benefits package is offered in accordance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. Starting salary is commensurate with previous law enforcement experience; $89,398.40 with at least two years of experience (Grade B) and $95,513.60 with three or more years of experience (Grade A).  Effective 7/1/2026, these rates increase to $93,766.40 (Grade B) and $100,027.20 (Grade A).  The Town currently offers a 401(a) plan with 8% match, with the match rising to 13% effective 7/1/2026.
