CERTIFIED CLASS I SPECIAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS (SLEO I)

The Guttenberg Police Department is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Class 1 Special Law Enforcement Officer.

ABOUT THE GUTTENBERG POLICE DEPARTMENT

  • The Guttenberg Police Department is comprised of 30 full-time Police Officers, 1 Class III Special Law Enforcement Officer, 6 Class II Special Law Enforcement Officers, 7 Class I Special Law Enforcement Officers, and currently serves over 12,000 residents.
  • Typically, the agency responds to over 15,000 calls for service on a yearly basis. Guttenberg is located between North Bergen and West New York in Hudson County, New Jersey. The Guttenberg Police Department is a Non-Civil Service agency.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants must be age 18 or older.
  • A United States Citizen.
  • Must be a resident of the State of New Jersey and possess a valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language well and intelligently and must possess a High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must be of good moral character and must not have been convicted of any offense involving dishonesty or which would make him/ her unfit to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, medical examination, psychological examination, drug screening examination, and oral interview.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the functions of the position, determined in accordance with the Police Training Commission.

HIRING PROCESS

  • All applicants are to submit a Cover Letter and Resume for consideration. If selected, the applicant must go through an oral interview and background investigation prior to receiving a conditional offer of employment. The applicant must then undergo psychological testing, and medical testing/drug testing prior to final review by the administration.
