The Manheim Borough Police Department is a Civil Service hiring agency. Manheim Borough Civil Service uses Guardian Alliance Technologies for the application and hiring process. You will be required to obtain a passing score of 70% on the Lancaster County Police Chiefs of Police Written test and obtain a PASS on the agility test. ABOUT US

The Manheim Borough Police Department serves the communities of Manheim Borough and Rapho Township by protecting citizens and property, preventing crime, enforcing laws, and maintaining order.  All Officers of the department are included in a rotation to patrol Manheim Borough and Rapho Township, so they gain expertise in both communities.  Manheim Borough Police Department patrols 47 square miles of Rapho Township and 1.5 square miles of Manheim Borough.

6 Year Patrol Officer:       $100,157.77

JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties and responsibilities of this position will vary from foot patrol to motor patrol. The officers’ primary responsibility is the protection of life and property. A senior officer or sergeant who gives specific instructions and assistance when special problems arise regularly checks work; however, a patrol officer is required to exercise initiative and discretion when faced with emergency conditions.

General duties shall include the following:

  • Enforce State and Local laws and regulations.
  • Patrol an assigned area during a specific period on foot or vehicle.
  • Check doors and window examine premises of unoccupied buildings or residences in order to detect suspicious conditions.
  • Investigate suspicious conditions or complaints and make arrests of persons who violate laws and ordinances.
  • Appear in court as arresting officer or witness.
  • Direct traffic, arrest and/or give written or verbal warnings to traffic violators.
  • Attends fires or accidents in assigned areas as directed, gives all possible assistance and prepares necessary reports made from investigation.
  • Maintain order in crowds and attend parades and other public gatherings.
  • Investigate and enforce state and local laws pertaining to juvenile offenders.
  • Watch for stolen cars, articles and wanted or missing persons.
  • Answer criminal complaints and take necessary corrective action.
  • Give advice on laws and ordinances and general information to the public.
  • Transport prisoners to specified locations.
  • Maintains a log on all activities; submit all reports on incidents as required.
  • Serve department warrants or warrants from other law enforcement agencies as requested.
  • Perform all types of public services as required.
  • Conduct security checks of banks, businesses, homes, etc.
  • Assist emergency personnel as required.
  • Perform other specific or specialized duties as directed.
  • Offer suggestions to enhance the needs of law enforcement in the community.
  • Perform all other related work as required.
  • If uncertain as to what action to take in a particular situation, seek the advice of a senior officer, sergeant or the Chief of Police.
