Thank you for your interest in the Montvale Police Department.
There are 8 elements that must be satisfied for hiring consideration. Each element must be met fully to reach the next phase of testing. Failure to meet any of the criteria required will result in elimination from the process.
Physical agility test:
To participate in the physical agility test, you must bring a payment of $65.00 in either cash or check on the day of the test. Checks should be made payable to Dr. Michael W. Golz.
The elements of the Montvale Police Department hiring process are:
-Resume review
-Physical Agility Testing
-Police Department oral interview.
-Ride Along
-Interview with Public Safety Committee.
-Complete and pass an extensive background investigation.
-Complete and pass a psychological examination.
-Complete and pass a medical examination.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
All applicants for the Montvale Police Department must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible to participate in the recruitment process for the position of police officer. Failure to meet any of these qualifications will automatically disqualify a candidate from further consideration.
At the time of the application, applicants must be:
Certified in Basic Course for Police Officers (BCPO) by the NJ Police Training Commission (PTC) OR
Currently enrolled in a Police Training Commission (PTC) certified New Jersey Police Academy, OR
Certified as a NJ Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II (SLEO II) AND meet the requirements set forth by the NJ Police Training Commission (PTC) to be eligible for a waiver to Basic Course for Police Officers (BCPO). At least one year from date of certification.
NOTE: This process is not waiver eligible for Class 1 SLEO.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum requirements to be eligible for hire as a Police Officer in the Montvale Police Department are as follows:
- United States Citizen;
- Is sound in body and of good health sufficient to satisfy the board of trustees of the police and firemen's retirement system of New Jersey as to his eligibility for membership in the retirement system;
- Is able to read, write and speak the English language well and intelligently;
- Is of good moral character, and has not been convicted of any criminal offense involving moral turpitude:
- New Jersey resident at time of appointment;
- Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license at time of appointment;
- Be at least 18 years old; but less than 35 years old at time of appointment
- And, have obtained an Associates degree AND have prior police related experience;
- Or, a Bachelors of Arts or Science degree from an accredited college or university;
- Or, an Honorable Discharge from one of the branches of the United States Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines or Coast Guard) after serving two (2) or more years of active duty AND having obtained 30 or more credits toward a degree from an accredited college or university.
PHYSICAL AGILITY EXAM:
The Physical Agility Exam will be scheduled on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at the Golz Chiropractic Center, 794 Franklin Ave. Suite #204, Franklin Lakes, NJ 07417. Testing will begin promptly at 7 AM-those who arrive late will be immediately disqualified from any further participation in the process.
You must bring a doctor’s note dated within 30 days of the physical agility exam certifying that you are medically fit to take the above test. Failure to produce the doctor’s note will result in elimination from the process. The doctor’s note will be collected at the beginning of the physical.
