PENBROOK BOROUGH POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Penbrook Borough Civil Service Commission will be accepting applications for creation of an eligibility list for the position of Police Officer.  Only individuals who have successfully completed the 2018 Dauphin County Chiefs of Police testing process with a score of 94% or above will be permitted to submit an application. 

The Penbrook Borough Police Department is a full service Pennsylvania Accredited Police Department serving a community of more than 3000 residents in central Dauphin County Pennsylvania.  We offer a full benefit package including family medical insurance (commencing with your date of hire) and a guaranteed pension plan.  We offer paid vacations, paid personal days and holidays, and paid sick leave.  2018 annual base salary after completing probation is $49,920.00, and after three years of service base pay is $58,220.29.  The police department is currently in the first year of a four year contract with the Borough.  

This process will include a background investigation and an oral interview with the Penbrook Borough Civil Service commission. Following submission of your application you will be contacted by a police officer assigned to conduct your background investigation.  Later you will be notified of a date and time for your interview with the civil service commission. 

After the civil service commission certifies a list of eligibles you will be notified of your status.  Final hiring decisions are made by Penbrook Borough Council and may include additional interview(s). 

If you are given a conditional offer of employment you will need to pass a series of examinations including physical, psychological, vision, and drug tests.  You may also be required to under go a polygraph test. 

You will also need to the following minimum requirements:

Minimum age 18.

High School Diploma or GED.

Good physical and mental health and be of high moral character.

Possess a valid PA driver license upon appointment.

Be able to obtain certification as a police officer by the Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission.

Respond to and Conduct Investigations of Various Crimes and Events.

Protect Crime Scene and collect Evidence and Information.

Conduct Lawful Arrests and Detentions of Persons.

Conduct Lawful Search and Seizure.

Provide Emergency Services and Assistance.

Respond to and Conduct Investigation of Motor Vehicle Accidents.

Enforce DUI and Other Commonwealth Motor Vehicle Laws.

Operate an Emergency Vehicle.

Execute Motor Vehicle Stops and Investigate Occupants.

Use Lawful Physical Force and Physical Exertion to Perform Duties.

Develop and Maintain Positive Community and Interpersonal Relations.

Write and Read Reports and Other Work Related Documents and Materials in both printed and digital formats.

Operate a computer, or similar device, and necessary software and applications.

Present Evidence and Testimony in Court and Hearings.

Intervene in and Control Human Conflicts.

Use Lawful Deadly Force if Necessary.  

Perform General Patrol Duties.

Other Duties as assigned.
