STONINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR
CERTIFIED POLICE / FIRE / EMS - FULL-TIME DISPATCHER

The Town of Stonington is currently accepting applications for the position of full-time dispatcher. Our dispatchers provide the highest quality of service to keep our citizens and visitors of Stonington safe while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and ethics.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Police/Fire/EMS Dispatcher - Answer telephone and 911 systems, collect required information and assign proper patrol / fire / EMS units. Answers and ask a variety of questions to determine nature and extent of emergency. Operate State of Connecticut “COLLECT” computer and N.C.I.C. computer systems, performs other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or his designee. Participate in all phases of training necessary to acquire the knowledge and skills required of the position. Monitor all security cameras. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS - KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Minimum one year as a public safety telecommunicator. Certification as a State of Connecticut 911 Emergency Dispatcher is highly preferred. Possessing the ability to operate 2-way radios, CAD systems (with typing skills) and proper oral / written communications skills. Must be able to follow verbal and written directions and have the ability to react quickly and calmly in an emergency situation. Knowledge of Stonington streets is highly preferred as is the proven ability to multi-task in a stressful environment.
SALARY- $26.02 - $33.39 /HOUR (Salary based on experienced)
Eligibility Requirements
- A minimum of 21 years of age.
- Minimum one year as a public safety telecommunicator
- You must be a Citizen of the United States.
- You must be a high school graduate or possess a GED.
- You must possess a valid driver’s license.
- You must be of good character and high moral standards.
- You must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions, to read and write proficiently in the English language.
- Candidates must be able to write clear and concise reports and have good people skills.

The competitive selection process will include, at minimum, a detailed review of your application packet, and the successful completion of the Department’s selection process which includes but may not be limited to the following:
- Oral Examination
- Psychological Exam
- Detailed Background Investigation
- Medical Exam
- Police Commission Interview
- Chief / Police Commission Interview
