The Auburn PD is a progressive and professional law enforcement organization with 55 sworn officers and 7 civilian employees. The Department has a proud tradition of honor, excellence, loyalty and professionalism and is a nationally and state-accredited law enforcement agency.
All applicants must be high school graduates or have passed a high school equivalency exam. Applicants must be 21 years of age, or 20 with at least 60 college credits.
Applicants must have passed the MCJA physical agility test and ALERT exam and possess a valid driver’s license. Candidates will be required to pass oral board, polygraph, medical, substance and psychological testing and an extensive background check. EXPEDITED HIRING PROCESS!
Police Officers must be able to work all shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
ENTRY LEVEL SALARY
Current starting salary is $30.16/hour - annual pay of more than $69,000 (includes holiday pay, performance base pay, and maximum educational incentive). Educational incentive is 50/hr. for Bachelor degree and .25/hr. for Associate degree.
CERTIFIED/LATERAL OFFICER SALARY
The City of Auburn has lateral entry and will recognize full-time law enforcement experience in municipal, county, state or federal law enforcement agency. Potential annual salary is more than $87,000+ (includes holiday pay, performance base pay, and maximum educational incentive). Educational incentive is 50/hr. for Bachelor degree and .25/hr. for Associate degree.
In addition to highly competitive wages, vacation, 2/3 retirement through Maine Public Employees Retirement System, and holiday and sick leave benefits, APD employees receive: HSA/Flexible Spending Account, dental/vision, an on-site gym, training and advancement opportunities, ample overtime, detail pay of $65/hour, minimum 3-hour court appearance pay. We also offer educational and special assignment stipends. Some special assignments included: School Resource Officer (SRO), Motorcycle Unit, Task Force positions, Field Training Officers (FTO's), Proactive Community Enforcement Unit (PACE), Firearms Team, EVOC Instructor, Crash Reconstruction, Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), Honor Guard, WMD/Hazmat Team, Drone Team, Peer Support Team and much more.
Successful candidates will attend the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
