About the Columbia Borough Police Department

The Columbia Borough Police Department has been proudly protecting and serving the community for many years. From modest beginnings, the Department has grown to include nineteen full-time police officers. The Patrol Unit is comprised of one Lieutenant, four Patrol Sergeants, one Patrol Corporal, and 11 Patrol Officers. The Detective Unit is comprised of one Detective and one officer assigned to the Lancaster County Drug Task Force. The Department is supported by an outstanding clerical staff. The primary goal of the Columbia Borough Police Department is to continue to make Columbia Borough a safe and secure community for everyone that lives, works, or visits the area.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements: (1) be at least 21 years of age prior to offer of employment, (2) be U.S. citizen, (3) possess a valid driver's license, meet one of the following: PA Act 120 certification (preferred); ability to obtain a waiver of training from PA Municipal Police Officer's Education and Training Commission (MPOETC); or current enrollment in Act 120 training with a satisfactory completion date prior to expected date of hire (the Department may hire and send applicants to the police academy if they are not already Act 120 Certified).

Working hours and conditions include weekends, holidays, and rotating 12-hour shifts including 6am-6pm and 6pm-6am shifts.

The Written exam is scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 8:00am (arrive by 7:30am) at the School District Administrative Building located at 200 N. Fifth Street, Columbia, PA 17512. A $60.00 fee will be charged through PoliceApp. ($25 to be refunded to candidates who complete the written test.)
