POLICE OFFICER
Minimum Requirements:
- A citizen of the United States with residential requirements as provided by state law.
- In good mental and bodily health.
- Able to read, write, and speak the English language intelligently.
- High School diploma or Equivalent
- Valid NJ Driver's License
- Of good moral character and free from conviction of any crime involving moral turpitude.
- Within the age limits established by state law (must be between the ages of 18-35 years of age).
Job Description/General Duties:
Police Officers are expected to handle calls for service, actively engage in the community, enforce all NJ State motor vehicle laws, uphold all NJ State Criminal Statutes, and enforce Cresskill Borough Ordinances.
Hiring Process:
- Written Exam - to be held on September 25, 2026 (testing fee included as part of application fee)
- Physical Agility Test - to be held on October 3, 2026 (An additional $65 fee is required by the applicant at the time of the test)

Department Overview:
The Cresskill Police Department is an accredited, professional law enforcement agency serving the Borough of Cresskill, New Jersey. Our Department is committed to providing professional, responsive, and community-oriented police services to the residents and visitors of Cresskill.
The Department is composed of 21 sworn police officers and four full-time civilian dispatchers. Our organization includes four patrol squads, a Traffic Bureau, and a Detective Bureau, providing officers with the opportunity to work in a variety of law enforcement functions and develop a broad range of skills and experience. The Department also utilizes Class I and Class III Special Law Enforcement Officers to assist with special events and other public safety functions.
The Cresskill Police Department maintains an in-house, 24/7 communications center, where all Police, Fire, and EMS calls are handled by our dedicated civilian dispatch staff. This integrated communications operation allows our officers and emergency services personnel to work closely with dispatchers who are an integral part of our department and community.
About the Community:
Cresskill is a 2 square mile mostly residential community that has 2 elementary schools and a combination Middle School/High School. Cresskill is approximately 10 miles from NYC with roughly 9,000 residents. Cresskill is bordered by Tenafly, Alpine, Demarest, Dumont and Bergenfield. Cresskill is a quiet community with a small business district, excellent recreational facilities and multiple houses of worship.
