EAST LONGMEADOW POLICE DEPARTMENT
POLICE OFFICER
The Town of East Longmeadow is accepting applications for the position of full-time police officer. Duties of this position are under direct supervision and a high quality of service is expected. Patrol officers are responsible for enforcing state and local laws relative to the prevention of crime, the apprehension of offenders, the protection of property and persons, the preservation of public peace, and the control of traffic. Patrol Officers perform additional investigative duties and public service work as assigned.
The selected applicant will be required to attend and successfully complete an MPTC Police Academy. All appointments are subject to meeting the requirements set forth by the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST). Current POST certified and academy trained officers are also welcome to apply.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 21 years of age
- U.S. citizen
- a high school diploma or equivalent
- a valid driver’s license
- Candidates must be eligible to possess a MA Class A License to carry a firearm
- Ability to work any hours and in all weather conditions
- Ability to learn and demonstrate job requirements after being trained.
- Non-certified applicants must be able to pass a physical ability test (entrance requirements for the police academy)
- All candidates must be able to complete an interview process
- A medical exam, a psychological exam, as well as an extensive background investigation will be conducted on all finalists.
SALARY & COMPENSATION
- New hire (non-certified officers) Entry Level start at $66,273 annually
- POST Certified Officers start at $75,110 annually
- 3 pay steps in total to top Patrol Officer step of $87,313 annually
- Education incentives add an additional 20% to base salary for eligible Bachelors & Masters degrees
- Longevity pay of 1% to 5% per year beginning at ten years of service
- Outside detail rate: $81.87 per hour
- Numerous opportuntities for overtime and outside details

TIME OFF BENEFITS
- Generous time off policy with the ability to both use and earn compensatory time
- 13 paid holidays
- Up to 25 vacation days annually (based on years of service)
