The Elizabethtown Borough Police Department is accepting applications for the position of FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER. Applications are available either in-person from the Civil Service Commission, Elizabethtown Police Department Office, 600 South Hanover Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, or they can be downloaded directly from the PoliceApp.com website at www.PoliceApp.com/elizabethtownPA. Completed and notarized application packets must be received or postmarked before 4:00 pm (est.) on Friday, August 30, 2024. Applicants who recently completed the Lancaster County Chiefs of Police Consortium application and testing process on July 28, 2024, will not be required to submit a new application.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
An acceptable applicant shall:
- Be a citizen of the Unites States
- Have reached their 21st birthday prior to the application deadline
- Have graduated from an accredited high school or possess a GED
- Be physically and mentally fit to perform all of the essential job functions of a police officer
- Prior to appointment, possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- Completion of an Act 120 Police Academy (or out-of-state equivalent) is preferred, but not required.
ABOUT US:
The Elizabethtown Police Department is a progressive, well-trained, and well-equipped civil service agency that has been serving the Elizabethtown community since 1911. Elizabethtown Borough has a population of approximately 12,000 residents and includes the Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown Area High and Middle School Campus, and two elementary schools. The Department currently employs 18 full time police officers and 2 administrative civilian personnel. Officers include the Chief of Police, Lieutenant, Corporals, Detectives, School Resource Officer, and Patrol Officers.
We are a community-oriented policing agency, with officers trained in multiple disciplines including, but not limited to, bicycle patrol, forensics, DUI enforcement, and traffic safety. Department officers participate in a number of community-based programs and we interact with our neighborhood partners on a daily basis. EPD is moving quickly into the future of 21st Century Policing, using innovative digital resources and policing strategies in an effort to better serve our community. Department officers are assigned to various county task forces and teams including, Lancaster County Major Crimes Unit, Lancaster County Forensics Team, and a Regional Crash Investigative Team. The police station also serves as a regional booking center for the fingerprinting and photographing of criminal suspects. This regional facility is utilized by three other police departments. The department is dispatched through Lancaster County-Wide Communications (LCWC).

We also offer a competitive salary range as provided within the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), with the starting salary currently set between $52,689 and $66,469, depending upon experience. PoliceApp applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable $35 application fee, as collected by PoliceApp.
Applications obtained in-person at the Elizabethtown Police Department must be accompanied by a non-refundable $35 application fee made payable to the Elizabethtown Police Department (check or money order). The check or money order shall be submitted when the completed application packet is either dropped off in-person or mailed to the Elizabethtown Police Department.
