Job Announcement

Physical Agility, Written Test and Oral Interviews will all be conducted on this day.

Job Requirements

At the time of application, every applicant for a position in the police department shall possess the following qualifications:

1. Possess a diploma from an accredited high school or a graduate equivalency diploma (GED).
2. Act 120 certification is NOT NEEDED to apply.
3. Be a United States Citizen.
4. Be physically and mentally fit to perform the full duties of a police officer.
5. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
6. All applicants must have reached their twenty-first (21st) birthday before the deadline for submitting completed applications.

Physical Fitness Test

• 1 Minute Sit-up
• 1 Minute Pushup
• 300 Meter Run
• 1.5 Mile Run
•  

This is a cumulative test. Each event is pass/fail; thus, if one event is failed the entire test is failed. Candidates are required to pass with a score at the 50th percentile for each event based on The Cooper Institute data. Pass/Fail: Must pass each event to continue in the testing process. Applicants without Act 120 must also be able to pass the physical fitness test given by the Police Academy for acceptance at a later time.

Written Test

Test is approved by the PA Chiefs of Police Association

The test consists of four (4) segments
1. Math
2. Spelling
3. Grammar
4. Writing

• Must pass with a 70% overall to continue in the hiring process
• Written test is 70% of your final score
•  

Oral Examination

• Answer a series of questions by a board of three (3) individuals
• Must pass by 70% to continue testing
• Oral Exam is 30% of your total score
•  

Background Investigation

If considered as a possible candidate an in-depth background check will be done before the conditional offer of hire

Act 120

Act 120 is not needed to apply. If the applicant passes the civil service test, the City of Johnstown will put you through the Police Academy. Continued employment is based on passing all requirements set forth by MOPETC and the Police Academy. Out of State Applicants must fulfill all eligibility requirements set forth by MPOETC.

Veterans Points

The Candidate must pass all aspects of the tests prior to qualifying for Veteran’s Preference of 10 additional points. Must have an honorable discharge. Reservists and National Guard must complete their obligations in order to qualify.
