Traffic Enforcement Officer – Part-Time

The Palisades Park Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Part-Time Traffic Enforcement Officer (TEO).

Traffic Enforcement Officers serve an important role in supporting the daily operations of the Police Department and helping maintain safe, orderly, and accessible streets throughout the Borough. TEOs work directly within the community and are responsible for enforcing municipal parking regulations, assisting with traffic and pedestrian safety, and supporting the Department during special events and other community activities.

The ideal candidate will be dependable, professional, self-motivated, and comfortable interacting with the public. Applicants should possess strong communication and problem-solving skills, exercise good judgment, and be capable of working independently in a variety of environments and weather conditions.

ABOUT THE POSITION

This is a part-time civilian position with the Palisades Park Police Department.

Traffic Enforcement Officers may be responsible for:

  • Enforcing municipal parking ordinances and regulations
  • Conducting parking enforcement throughout the Borough
  • Issuing parking summonses when appropriate
  • Assisting with traffic and pedestrian control
    Supporting traffic safety initiatives
  • Assisting during special events, road closures, emergencies, and community functions
  • Providing information and assistance to residents, visitors, and business owners
  • Operating Department-issued equipment and vehicles
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

The position requires regular interaction with the public and applicants must be capable of remaining professional and courteous while handling complaints, questions, and potentially confrontational situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Be a United States citizen
  • Be a New Jersey resident at the time of appointment
  • Possess a valid New Jersey Driver's License
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED
    Be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Be of good moral character
  • Successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation
  • Successfully pass a drug screening
  • Successfully pass a medical examination
  • Be physically capable of performing assigned duties, including prolonged periods of standing and walking
  • Be capable of performing duties outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be able to interact professionally with members of the public
  • Be able to work independently and exercise sound judgment
  • Be available to work a flexible part-time schedule, which may include days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events
