It is the duty of the Pocono Township Police Department to safeguard the lives and property of the people it serves. The Pocono Township Police Department is creating an eligibility list and is accepting applications from interested and qualified candidates for the position of police officer. Candidates can submit an application, resume, and cover letter to the PTPD, through www.policeapp.com.  The deadline for receipt of applications is Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 4:00 p.m.  Applications can only be submitted through www.policeapp.com.

The written test to be administered on Thursday, March 4, 2021. Registration from 5:15 pm to 6:20 pm. The test begins at 6:30 pm. The location will be at St. Luke’s Emergency & Transport Services, 2884 PA-611, Tannersville, PA.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Pocono Township Police Department was formed in 1968 with one patrolman, the current Police Department consists of nineteen (19) full-time officers, headed by Chief of Police, Kent J Werkheiser with one (1) Sergeant, one (1) Sergeant of Detectives, two (2) Detectives, three (3) Corporals, twelve (12) Patrolmen and a full-time administrative support assistant. The agency provides 24/7 service to the residents, businesses, and visitors of Pocono Township.  The department is responsible for a jurisdiction covering 35 square miles with 126 miles of roadway and containing a population in excess of 12,000. The community consists of a diverse mixture of residential, commercial, manufacturing, and agricultural areas. For more information go to www.poconopa.gov .

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions and complete a competitive process including but not limited to oral interviews, physical and psychological examination, polygraph examination, and comprehensive background investigation.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Must have a valid PA operator's license at the time of application deadline.
  • Must possess current ACT 120 MPOETC certification at time of application deadline or be eligible to pass the ACT 120 certification exam by end of hiring process.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States in good standing.
  • Must meet or exceed all requirements and conditions for certification under MPOETC Act 120, the Pocono Township Police Department Police Officer Job Description, and the PTPD Selection and Hiring policy.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

  • Physical Agility Fitness Testing
  • Veteran preference points will be applied to candidates after Oral board #1
  • Oral Interview 1 with independent examination board
  • Oral Interview 2 with Police Command Staff and Township Administration
  • Background investigation
  • Polygraph examination 
  • Medical evaluation 
  • Drug screening
  • Psychological evaluation
  • Final selection will be made from any one of the top three candidates

THE PTPD OFFERS COMPETITIVE SALARY AND BENEFITS:

  • Competitive salary as provided within the existing CBA.  The 2021 starting salary is $56,492. The 2021 full Officer salary is $80,724.

  • Department issued uniforms, equipment, and yearly uniform/equipment maintenance allowance.
