With a team of 48 full-time sworn officers, supported by 2 part-time parking enforcement officers and a dedicated mental health clinician, the department delivers comprehensive law enforcement and public safety services around the clock. Minimum Requirements

  • Future successful completion of a prescribed course of study at a police academy approved by the municipal police training committee pursuant to section 96B of chapter 41
  • A qualifying examination administered by the appointing authority that has been validated by a test-development expert and that tests the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the primary or dominant duties of the position
    any other examination approved by the administrator in consultation with individuals deemed to be subject matter experts in the policing profession
  • Current service in the commonwealth as a salaried police officer certified by the peace officer standards and training commission
  • Graduation within the past 5 years from a police academy approved by the municipal police training committee
  • Receipt of a waiver from the municipal police training committee excusing the named candidate from further academy training.

Job Description/General Duties:

Starting assignment as night patrol officers. Rotating 4/2 schedule with 2 midnight/ 2 evening shifts.

Benefits:

  • Members of the MA GIC Healthcare Plan. Town pays 75-80% of costs of premium depending on the plan selected.
  • Town contribution of 80% of HMO health insurance premiums and 75% for PPO premiums
  • Health reimbursement arrangement plan with a max out of pocket of $1,500 for an individual and $3,000 for a family plan
  • Health insurance opt out payment of $175 a month for an individual or $350 a month for a family plan
  • Health insurance premiums waived for the month of January – employee pays premiums for 11 months annually
  • $1,000 annual physical fitness assessment incentive
  • Each week of vacation time calculated at 7 days instead of 5
