WILTON, NH POLICE DEPARTMENT

Full-Time Police Officer Position

Pay

  • Uncertified Starting Pay- $22.00 an hour. Upon completion of the academy- $24.00 an hour
  • Certified Starting Pay- depending on experience and qualifications for certified officers pay range is between $24.00 to $30.00 an hour.

****There is a $5,000 sign on bonus. 50% upon swearing in and then 50% upon graduation of the police academy. *****


Wilton Police is rostered for 8 full time and 4 part time police officers. Chief, Lieutenant, Sergeant, Police/Prosecutor, and 4 Patrol Officers.

We are currently looking to hire 1 police officer. The town is also in the discussion stages of implementing a School Resource Officer for the 2024-2025 School Year, which would add a 9th full time position to the department. Any certified police officer that is looking to expand their Law Enforcement career to the best community police officer position available, is encouraged to apply.

The Town of Wilton is 25.8 square miles and population was 3,845 in 2020. There are two major routes, Route 101 and Route 31, that run through Wilton. Wilton is surrounded by the following towns: Mason, Greenville, Temple, Lyndeborough, and Milford. Milford and Wilton are the only police departments that are 24/7.

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 21 years of age.
  • A United States Citizens with a valid driver’s license.
  • Can NOT have a Felony or Domestic Violence conviction.
  • Can NOT have a conviction for driving while intoxicated within the last 10 years.

Hiring Process:

  • Step 1 - Apply.
  • Step 2 - Written Test. 70% or higher is passing.
  • Step 3 - PT Test (see NH Police Standards and Training Council website for physical fitness requirements).
  • Step 4 - Oral Board Interview.

If the candidate passes Steps 1-4, they will be given a conditional offer. This will start the background investigation process. The candidate will be required to submit to the following:

  • Thorough Background Investigation
  • Polygraph Examination
  • Psychological Evaluation
  • Medical Examination
  • Physical Examination

    If the candidate is successful with this process, they will be formally offered the position and then sworn in. If they are uncertified, they will be enrolled in the earliest Police Academy class at the NH PSTC. If they are certified, they will undergo Field Training.
