NAUGATUCK POLICE DEPARTMENT

“The mission of the Naugatuck Police Department is to provide excellent service through partnerships that build trust, reduce crime, create a safe environment, and enhance the quality of life in our community.”

   The Naugatuck Police Department has 60 sworn members and 17 civilian employees.  The men and women of the Naugatuck Police Department serve 31,862 residents and patrol an area of approximately 16 square miles.  The Department currently has three divisions: the Patrol Division, the Detective Division, and the Administrative Division.  . 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

   The Patrol Division has one Captain, three Lieutenants, six Sergeants, 35 patrol officers, and six dispatchers.  The Patrol Division has three shifts providing 24/7 coverage to the Borough of Naugatuck.  The Patrol Division has three canine officers, two motorcycle officers, two School Resource Officers, and a patrol bicycle unit.  The Patrol Division is responsible for investigations of crimes, enforcement of motor vehicle law, motor vehicle collision investigations, and responding to general calls for assistance.  All patrol officers are certified medical first responders and take part in a multitude of community-oriented programs.

   The Detective Division has one Detective Lieutenant, two Detective Sergeants, and eight Detectives.  The Detective Division handles complex investigations, sexual assault investigations, crime scene processing, evidence collection, digital forensic investigations, and background investigations.  The Detective Division has two Detectives assigned to Federal task forces, one with the FBI and one with the DEA, and works closely with the Department of Children and Families, Naugatuck Youth Services and other local youth organizations, and Waterbury Superior Court.

   The Administrative Division consists of the training division, the records division, public information, crime prevention, internal affairs, information technology, and the evidence/property room.  The Administrative Division has one Lieutenant, one Training Officer, one Evidence/Court Liaison Officer, one Administrative Officer, and five civilian employees assigned to it.

   The Naugatuck Police Department has specialized units such as the Naugatuck Valley Collision Investigation Team, motorcycle unit, bicycle unit, drone unit, and traffic unit.  Naugatuck Officers are also represented on the Waterbury Regional Emergency Response (SWAT) Team.
