Our Mission
The mission of the North Kingstown Fire Department is to provide for the protection of life and property, through the efficient and effective delivery of emergency and non-emergency services.
Town of North Kingstown
The Town of North Kingstown is a suburban community located in Washington County, Rhode Island. North Kingstown is home to quaint seaside villages, retail shops, light commercial occupancies and a sprawling industrial park that employs more than 14,000 workers daily. Included in the Town is a deep-water seaport, a state airport, and both commercial and passenger rail lines.
North Kingstown Fire Department
The North Kingstown Fire Department was organized in 1917 with a Board of Fire Commissioners appointed by the Town Council. The Fire Chief and on-call firefighters were appointed by the Fire Commissioners. The Department transitioned to a full-time paid organization shortly after the Great 1938 Hurricane and steadily increased its number of paid personnel during World War II.
Today, the department is a fulltime paid all hazards fire and EMS service. The Department employs over 80 personnel. There is a fulltime fire chief, assistant fire chief, fire marshal, and assistant fire marshal and other support staff. The department operates five stations and staffs five engine companies, two-ALS transport rescues, one ladder company, and a shift commander.
Additionally, firefighters cross-staff a Heavy Rescue [Special Hazards] apparatus, two brush units, a HAZMAT/DECON unit, and a 38 foot 860 HP jetboat dedicated for year-round marine fire/rescue operations. North Kingstown’s firefighters respond to a wide variety of incidents ranging from emergency medical calls, fire calls, confined space-rope rescue, high-angle rope rescue, wildland fires, marine rescue and fires, and HAZMAT DECON. The firefighters are represented by the North Kingstown Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 1651.
