About Us

The Town of Ossipee is located in the heart of Carroll County, New Hampshire, serving as both the county seat and the largest town in the region. Nestled among rolling hills and bordered by the Ossipee Mountains to the west—an ancient range of extinct volcanoes—the town is known for its scenic beauty, outdoor recreation, and strong sense of community.

Ossipee consists of several small villages and rural neighborhoods spread throughout its landscape, with historic charm and New England character evident in its homes, businesses, and civic institutions. The town’s shops, antique stores, and locally crafted goods draw visitors year-round, particularly along its country roads and village centers.

The area is a four-season destination, offering excellent fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, and snowmobiling. Ossipee Lake and its surrounding rivers and streams provide year-round opportunities for residents and tourists alike to enjoy the natural environment.
While the town has a year-round population of approximately 4,500, its numbers swell during the summer and winter seasons due to a surge in seasonal homeowners, vacationers, and recreational visitors. This influx dramatically increases the demand for public safety services and contributes to an annual call volume exceeding 18,000.

Ossipee is home to local schools, small businesses, and a number of community-based organizations. The town benefits from a close-knit population, active civic engagement, and a shared commitment to preserving its rural charm while ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for all.
