Uniform Patrol Deputy
General Description:
Uniform Patrol Deputies comprise the largest number of personnel in the Uniform Patrol Division. A Deputy may be assigned to one of the 9 zones in Rapides Parish. Each Deputy is responsible for responding to calls for service within their assigned zones, provide assistance to Deputies in adjacent zones when required, render First Aid, assist other First Responders (i.e. Fire Departments, E.M.T.’s, other Law Enforcement Agencies) on medical assist calls, fires, vehicle crashes or natural disasters. Deputies must provide courteous and professional service, thoroughly investigate complaints, collect and process evidence, write detailed reports, relay pertinent information to supervisors, care for the equipment which has been issued to them, operate patrol units proficiently and safely under high stress conditions and inclement weather. Deputies must be well trained in conflict resolution, Defensive Tactics, Firearms and First Aid is a necessity for all Uniform Patrol Deputies. All Deputies shall be knowledgeable of Constitutional Law, relevant Case Law/United States Supreme Court decisions, Louisiana State Law, and Rapides Parish Ordinances. Deputies are to be well groomed, punctual, and abide by the Policies and Procedures of the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Proactively patrol assigned zones
- Enforce Title 14 and Title 32 law and parishes ordinances
- Take reports of criminal complaints
- Service of Warrants and/or Criminal Court Subpoenas
- Building checks of businesses
- Private property accidents and other crashes as needed
- Escorts
- Stranded motorist / welfare checks of citizens
Qualifications:
- Uniform Patrol Deputy must be a Basic, Level 1, P.O.S.T certified peace officer in good standing.
- Applicants must pass an extensive pre-employment background investigation. Those who move forward in the hiring process must successfully complete both the Alexandria Regional Police Academy and the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Division Field Training Program.
