Program Overview
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) and Walton County Fire Rescue (WCFR) offer a Ride-Along Program designed to give civilians and potential employees a behind-the-scenes look at public safety operations. Whether you’re considering a career in law enforcement, fire rescue, or simply want to learn more about what we do, this program is a great way to observe our professionals in action. Participants may choose to ride along with either WCSO deputies or WCFR personnel. During the ride-along, you’ll gain insight into daily responsibilities, emergency response protocols, and the commitment it takes to serve and protect Walton County.
Requirements
- Submission of Ride-Along Approval Form
- Completion of background check
Participant Rules
- Shall have no law enforcement authority and are under the direct supervision of the member assigned.
- Shall wear acceptable business attire and present a professional image expected of the Sheriff’s Office. Participants deemed inappropriately dressed shall not be permitted to participate as a ride-along.
- Shall not carry any weapon without prior written approval from the respective bureau chief.
- Are prohibited from using any type of tobacco product during the ride-along.
- Shall not enter a private residence if the resident objects to the participant entering.
- Members of the media shall not accompany members into a private residence or business that is not open to the public.
- Shall not engage in any investigation, handling of evidence or case discussions with victims, witnesses, or suspects.
- Shall not utilize agency equipment without authorization from the assigned member.
- Shall not interfere with any member performing his or her duty.
- May take notes during the ride-along:
- The use of video or audio recorders or photographic cameras shall not be permitted without prior written approval from the respective bureau chief.
- During the ride-along, the participant may be exposed to privileged information. The participant shall not discuss any information or incident details related to official agency business.

- CJIS Training and certificate
- Approval confirmed
- Participant is contacted to schedule
- Ride-Along is conducted
