General Hiring Requirements:
- Age - Must be at least 21 years of age by the time of Long Application.
- Citizenship - Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Education - Must have graduated from high school or received a G.E.D., or received an equivalent education acceptable to the Harrisburg Civil Service Commission.
- Driver's License - Must possess a current valid driver's license which has not been restored or suspended since 3 Years from date of Application.
- General - Must be able to perform the essential job functions of Police Officer as defined in the Harrisburg Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
You must achieve a 70% on the written test to move on in the process. Submission of a formal application will need to be completed by those who score a 70% or higher.

The Police Division operates 24 hours a day and provides uniformed patrol, conducts criminal investigations, dispatches for both Harrisburg Bureau of Police and Fire, and provides Emergency 911 service for Harrisburg and surrounding communities. Homeland Security and the ever-changing 21st century world demands that law enforcement adapt and change to meet those needs.
