The Provincetown Police Department is a non-civil service police department that provides public safety services to the Town of Provincetown, Massachusetts.  It is a progressive, community-oriented police department consisting of 21 full-time officers.  The department has an emergency 911 call center staffed with civilian telecommunicators, a detective unit, on-call school resource officers, an honor guard, specialized patrol (bicycle, motorcycle, ATV), and has members assigned to regional police units (SWAT, motorcycle, accident reconstruction).  During the summer season, civilian employees are also hired to assist with the large amount of visitors that come to share in the Provincetown experience.  A brand new police facility is currently being built and will be opening in 2024.

We, the members of the Provincetown Police Department, work in partnership with our community to provide a tranquil quality of life. We acknowledge the uniqueness of our town and tailor our ability to support its needs by providing traditional and non-traditional services. Furthermore, to uphold the citizens’ trust we foster an environment of accountability, integrity, respect, and diversity.

Provincetown is located at the tip of Cape Cod, Massachusetts and is the original landing place of the Pilgrims in America.  It is a seasonal community and is well known for its busy downtown area.  Provincetown is home to many shops, galleries, restaurants, activities, and pubs, and has a vibrant nightlife.  It has long been known as an LGBTQ+ destination and is host to large events during the summer.
