About

The Town of Barrington's Fire Department is an integral part of the public safety system in the Town and continually strives to provide a caring, courteous and highly competent Fire Rescue Emergency service. 

Staff and Services

The Barrington Fire Department is a full-time department consisting of 20 firefighters, 4 lieutenants, and 4 captains working under the direction of Fire Chief Gerald Bessette. All Barrington Fire Department members are Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) trained at the Cardiac level with endotracheal intubation certification and 12 lead electrocardiogram (EKG) capability.

In addition to fire responses, the Department responds to other emergencies, including:

•Marine Rescues

•Medical Emergencies

•Motor Vehicle Accidents

•Hazardous Materials Mitigation

•Ice Rescue

•Lockouts 

•Water Emergencies

•Confined Space Rescue

History

This chronology of the Barrington Fire Department has been gathered from old newspaper clippings, Fire Department records, the minutes from town meetings, and the memories of firefighters, both past and present, who recall the "good old days." It is far from complete, but never the less it is sufficient to give the reader a picture of the advancements made in fire protection and EMS over the years in the town.
