The Mattapoisett Police Department is a Full time Police agency that is responsible for Police, EMS, Emergency Communications and Emergency Management.
The Department presently consists of a Chief of Police, 4 Sergeants, 16 full time Police Officers and 1 part time Police Officer. The Mattapoisett Police Department serves and answers calls 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. A typical shift is 12/8, 8/4 or 4/12. A shift consists of four working police officers, three on patrol and one at the dispatch center. All of Mattapoisett's Police Officers are Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council certified per POST and are also licensed Emergency Medical Technician's or Paramedics. The Mattapoisett Police Department is one of few police departments that also operates a staffed Emergency Medical System from within its Police Department.

This system is very efficient and has worked extremely well for the town. Mattapoisett Police is a member agency of SEMLEC, Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council and has opportunities for Search and Rescue, Motorcycle Unit, Detectives, CISM, SWAT, Bicycle Patrol, Drone Unit and School resource officers.
