CERTIFIED POLICE OFFICER BILINGUAL ENGLISH/KOREAN

THE LEONIA POLICE DEPARTMENT is hiring for the position of Certified Police Officer. Applicants MUST be bilingual in English and Korean. Applicants must also possess NJ PTC Basic Course for Police Officers certification or be NJ PTC Basic Course for Police Officers certified prior to December 31, 2020 (Not Accepting SLEO 1 or 2 Certification).  Applicants must also possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university. Applications will be accepted until Friday, April 17, 2020.

ABOUT THE BOROUGH of LEONIA

• Population 9,200
• 1 officer has been approved to be hired on or about July 1, 2020
• Approximately 12,000 calls for service annually
• Located approximately one mile from the George Washington Bridge
• All officers in the department possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• U.S. Citizen
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited 4-year College or University
• Meet the requirements of and be eligible for membership in the PFRS
• Read, write and speak English and Korean
• Be of good moral character and free of conviction of any crime constituting an indictable offense or any crime or offense involving moral turpitude
• Must pass an oral, physical, psychological, medical and drug testing examinations and meet essential job functions.
• Possess a valid NJ driver's license

TESTING REQUIREMENTS

• Panel interviews by Command Staff of the Police Department, Police Committee and Mayor (3 separate interviews).
