JOB DESCRIPTION:
General and specific duty police work in protecting life and property through enforcement of state and federal laws and local ordinances in a diligent, dependable, honest, and competent manner. Perform preventive patrol and other law enforcement functions aimed at protecting life and property, preserving the peace, reducing opportunities for the commission of crimes, and identifying and apprehending offenders. The patrol officer shall provide emergency and non-emergency services while creating and establishing a sense of security in the community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be an active Rhode Island P.O.S.T. certified Police Officer OR Be a recently retired / resigned Police Officer with the credentials to re-apply for Rhode Island P.O.S.T. certification OR Be an out-of-state P.O.S.T. certified Police Officer with the credentials to apply for a Rhode Island P.O.S.T. certification
Must be a United States Citizen
Must be at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of the application deadline
Must possess and provide a valid motor vehicle operator's license
Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. (Higher education preferred)
Must be of good moral character and successfully pass an extensive background investigation
Must pass a physical and psychological examination
