JOB DESCRIPTION

The Provincetown Police Department is currently seeking POST certified (transfer) or POST eligible (Out of State) candidates for the position of full-time Police Officer. We offer a $5,000-$10,000 sign-on bonus commensurate with your experience. We are seeking a diverse group of experienced officers who are looking to make a difference in one of the most diverse communities in the Commonwealth. The department will begin operating out of a brand-new state of the art 16.5-million-dollar police station in Spring 2024. We offer exceptional careers for those seeking a challenging profession where you can make a difference. The starting salary for this position is $76.345 with a top step of $90,683. Additional compensation is available through shift differential, $4,000/$6,000/$8,000 educational incentive and longevity pay for qualified applicants, as well as through private event paid details and overtime assignments. A generous time off package where transfer officers will be credited with the number of years served in other municipalities to calculate annual vacation leave, 70% employer paid strong insurance options for health, life, dental and disability. The current detail rate is $65.00 per hour, where one hour equals eight-hour minimums for all traffic and construction details. Four and eight-hour minimums apply for private events and security details.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • - Within six months of hire, applicants must reside in any Cape town between Provincetown and Barnstable;
  • - Applicants must have already completed Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) training or an equivalent out-of-state police academy that qualifies for a waiver from the MPTC or those with bridge POST certification.
  • - Out of state applicants must provide an 'Advisory Letter' (www.mass.gov/how-to/request-an-exemption-or-temporary-waiver) from the MPTC at the time of application. Candidates who have not already completed an MPTC police academy or who fail to provide an Advisory Letter will be automatically rejected. 
  • -Applicants must also possess a high school diploma, good communication skills, a valid driver’s license and be able to successfully pass a background investigation, physical exam, psychological testing and required mandatory training.
