NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR

Deputy Sheriff

We are looking for community minded individuals that are effective communicators and want to make a difference in their community. We are accepting applications for the position of a law enforcement deputy sheriff.  Must be able to work rotating shifts, holidays, nights, and weekends.   Starting pay is $47,231 with Virginia State benefits package and numerous overtime opportunities. 

Once employed future opportunities may exist in patrol, investigations, school resource officer, civil process, tactical team, crisis negotiations, K-9, and court security.

Minimum Requirements:

Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess a high school diploma or GED – an associates degree from an accredited community or junior college preferred; must be a citizen of the United States; have no background or record of any criminal conviction; be of exemplary ethical reputation; possess a valid state operator’s license; be able to satisfactorily pass a thorough background investigation; be in a physical condition which does not limit, in any way, activities necessary and/or inherent to law enforcement operations.

Virginia is now offering a lateral academy for out of state certified law enforcement officers.  If you qualify for this program you may only have to attend a 5-8 week long academy. Information attached in the provided link.

Hiring Process:

Must be able to pass a written and physical test, panel interview, a comprehensive background investigation, and psychological examination.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  

Must have great communication skills, be able to deal  fairly, and courteously with the public; ability to work alone and as a team; ability to communicate effectively via voice, telephone, radio, intercom, or in writing with staff, or the public; ability to keep accurate records and prepare reports; demonstrated skill in the use of firearms; physical condition that permits the activities necessary in, and inherent to law enforcement operations.
