New Providence Police Department will be interviewing for the position of Special Law Enforcement Officer Class 2. See qualification requirements for each respective position.
Applicants will be subjected to a thorough police background check, which will include criminal history, motor vehicle violations, previous jobs, and personal and professional references. Successful candidates passing the first phase (resume and application review) will be participate in a series of oral interviews.
The candidate(s) offered a position will be required to pass a Medical Examination, Psychological Evaluation, and Drug Screening.
Minimum Requirements
- Citizen of the United States and resident of the State of New Jersey;
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent
- Valid NJ Driver’s License
- Of good mental and physical health
- Must be of good moral character and shall not be convicted of any indictable crime or any offense involving dishonesty or which would make her/him unfit to perform their assigned duties.
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language well and intelligently
- Able to pass a physical and psychological examinations as well as drug screening.
- Current PTC SLEO II Certification preferred but not required.
Job description/General Duties
SLEO II Officers are empowered to issue summons for motor vehicle violations, city ordinance violations, petty disorderly persons violations and disorderly persons violations. SLEO II officers have the same authority and arrest powers as a full time police officer while they are employed. In addition to the above responsibilities, they have the responsibility of carrying a firearm.
In this round of hiring we are seeking a qualified SLEO II Officer to work within our Patrol Division. This SLEO II Officer must be able to successfully complete our department's Field Training Program. Once completed, this officer will work within our Patrol Division to supplement patrols, provide security for the courts while they are in session, and act as school resource officer if needed.
