POLICE OFFICER
GENERAL DUTIES
Exercise authority consistent with the obligations imposed by the oath of office and in conformance with the general duties of the Department. To protect life and property, preserve the peace and perform their duties professionally, community-oriented and with.
SALARY
Starting Salary for Probationary Officer(s) $43,839
Accepting Lateral transfers within NJ up to 4 years’ experience.
ABOUT THE NEWTON POLICE DEPARTMENT
Newton, with a resident population of around 8,500, serves as the County Seat of Sussex County. The town is experiencing growth in both its residential and business sectors, leading to a significant increase in population and traffic during business hours. The Police Department, consisting of 23 full-time officers and 3 Class III Special sworn officers, is dedicated to providing the residents of Newton with the highest level of police services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be between 18 and 35 years of age
- Must be US Citizen and a Resident of New Jersey
- Must have (at minimum) a High School Diploma
- Must Possess a valid New Jersey Driver’s License
- Must have full BCPO PTC Certification or scheduled to graduate from a NJPTC certified academy
- Must be able to successfully pass a full Background Check
- Must be able to qualify for NJ Police License
