POLICE OFFICER
- Applicant must be between 18 to 35 years of age, and a citizen of the United States.
- Possess an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university, or shall have been honorably discharged from active duty, from a branch of the United States Military Service , and possess a high school diploma or equivalency certificate recognized by the Department of Education of the State of New Jersey.
- Applicant must be able to pass written and/or oral examinations and one or more oral interviews.
- Be a resident of New Jersey
- Possess a valid New Jersey Drivers License
- Preference will be given to candidates that have completed the Basic Course for Police Officers, and hold a current PTC certification, or hold Special Officer II certification that is eligible to receive a waiver from the New Jersey Police Training Commission.
- Applicants who do not have a PTC certification must have completed written and physical testing given by the Monmouth County Chiefs of Police Association.
- Finalists must undergo a background investigation, a physical and psychological examinations.
- Pass a urinalysis drug test
General Duties:
Respond to a multitude of diverse and varied calls for service while taking a pro-active approach in thwarting crime and enforcing traffic laws.
Salary:
$45,000 to $126,671 plus overtime.
About Our Department:
The Ocean Township Police Department is an accredited agency recognized by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police. The department is led by Chief Michael Sorrentino with two captains, 4 lieutenants, 11 sergeants and approximately 40 patrol officers. The police department has a fully staffed detective bureau, traffic bureau and logistics and special projects office.
The police department serves a population of approximately 28,000 residents with an increase during the summer months.
Officers are members of the Monmouth/Ocean County Emergency Response Team, the Maritime Emergency Response Team, the Monmouth County Rapid Deployment Force, the Serious Collision Analysis Response Team and the Monmouth Ocean County Intelligence Bureau.
The department also works in conjunction with the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office, the New Jersey State Police, the New Jersey Attorney General's Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security.
