Firefighter/Paramedic
About the North Haven Fire Department:
The North Haven Fire Department provides fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response, and other rescue services to the Town of North Haven. The North Haven Fire Department currently consists of 40+ Career firefighters assigned to two stations with volunteer firefighters staffing an additional two stations. Fire Headquarters located at 11 Broadway facilitates administrative offices including fire inspectors/investigators. The North Haven Fire Department provides ALS transport and intercept on occasion relying heavily upon an exclusive agreement with Nelson Ambulance for the majority of ALS and BLS transports. Total alarms responded to are typically around 5000/yr with a near 50/50 split between EMS and fire related incidents.
The department remains heavily reliant upon volunteer firefighters for incident response which has seen a decline in volunteer membership from 105+ volunteers to approximately 20 volunteers over the last 10-15 years. The North Haven Fire Department maintains mutual aid relationships with all surrounding towns.
The Town of North Haven is now accepting applications for entry level Firefighter / Paramedic.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must:
- Be in general good health and have a current (January 2024 or newer) CPAT certification.
- Must have EMT-P certification, include a copy with application.
- Must have graduated from High School or possess a recognized GED, include a copy with application.
- Upon conclusion of the probationary period which is one (1) year, live within a 30-mile radius of North Haven Fire Headquarters in accordance with the CBA.
- Pass an oral, background and credit check, drug testing and physical examination
- Have no criminal record and possess excellent moral character
- Eligible for employment as of January 26, 2026
- Be willing to attend the CT Fire Academy Recruit Training Program which begins February 9, 2026.
