The Medical University of South Carolina Department of Public Safety is a nationally accredited law enforcement agency and fully functional police agency with the same statutory authority on our campus as any other municipal police department in the State of South Carolina. The Department is responsible for, and its primary mission is, the protection of lives and property at the Medical University of South Carolina. MUSC Public Safety currently has 40 sworn, state certified officers of all ranks. Specialized units in the department include our detective division, emergency response team, emergency management and operations support unit.

The mission of the Medical University of South Carolina Department of Public Safety is to ensure that our students, our medical staff and our researchers can conduct their work in the safest environment possible. The Medical University of South Carolina is consistently at the forefront of medical care and medical research throughout the entire United States. Our campus is 84 acres located in the heart of beautiful, historic Charleston, South Carolina.

The Medical University of South Carolina was formed in 1824 and has a student population of around 3,000. The nearly 26,000 MUSC family members include world-class faculty, physicians, specialty providers, scientists, students, affiliates and care team members who deliver groundbreaking education, research, and patient care.
