POLICE OFFICER VACANCY NOTIFICATION
NEXT WRITTEN EXAM: February 6, 2019 @ 7:00 pm at Case High School, 70 School St. Swansea, MA 02777

The Town of Swansea is currently seeking reserve police officers. The Police Department will be conducting a written exam on February 6, 2019 at Case High School, 70 School St. Swansea, MA 02777. Applications must be completed on-line by 4:00 pm on Friday February 1, 2019.
NOTE: Full-time sworn Police Officers are selected from the active Reserve Officer list; candidates who pass the written examination AND have completed a fulltime MPTC approved police academy are encouraged to apply. Candidates with a fulltime MPTC approved academy may by-pass the reserve officer program when the need arises at the discretion of the Chief of Police.
Upon passing the written examination candidates will be required to participate in an oral interview, medical examination, physical examination and intensive background check.
Duties and Responsibilities: the Reserve Officers may be assigned to work on scheduled Patrol shifts and to perform dispatching duties. Reserve Officers may also work assignments as authorized by the Chief of Police including working on special occasions such as parades, Halloween, and the Fourth of July. After field training and a break-in period, the Reserve Officer may be allowed to work police details. Reserve Officers will be evaluated by patrol officers and supervisors on a regular basis, and appointed annually. Reserve Officers who have completed all training requirements and regularly participate in work assignments, will be eligible to fill full-time police patrolman vacancies.
Qualifications/Requirements: Applicants must be U.S. Citizens 18 years of age or older at the time of the written examination, possessing at least 60 college credits; and/or 2 years active military service and/or 4 years National Guard/Reserve Service while having possessing GED or High School diploma, OR must be currently enrolled as a fulltime student in a Criminal Justice Program. Candidates must be eligible to obtain a Class A license to carry a firearm and possess a valid driver’s license.
